Why do you live where you live?
by Satans little helper infor me i just drifted there when i finished my degree and the girl i was living with at the time got a good job with hewlett packard.
i tagged along and got a job within commuting distance.
i don't really like the city i live in but i haven't bothered moving for the last 6 years through inertia i guess.

Do you live where you grew up, and are you planning on moving one day?
What keeps you living where you are

Going into debt too pay for a wedding

Our wedding cost us around £4500 ($8500) and we had it in a pub by the beach, 50 friends and a sit down meal for the reception. It doesn't have to cost a fortune but my wife looked breathtaking in her dress and the photographer was ok.
We could have spent more but we figured that people that do end up doing it just for show

Apostates, Hatred for the Org, leaving JWD
by wanderlustguy inyesterday i watched a thread grow so fast it was insane.
that thread wasn?t about how bad the society was, it wasn?t about sex or drugs, it was what we thought could have been someone committing suicide, saying they had enough?life sucks and then....
then today i read a second posting of someone who has done an exhaustive study on the postings found within jwd (actually only the tame ones that are from people leaning more pro org than against) and determined what a hate filled sack of pus this place is.

Wander, you sum up beautifully the hypocracy and closed mindedness of this organisation.
My story is similar to yours in many ways, except that my father was physically abusive. I have not ever read a single supportive post on this site from a pro dub, merely the stock answers from the WT brainwashing.
It always grated me that when something like the Tsunami happened that you would always see Cathod, Oxfam and other christian organisations helping but the dubs couldn't be arsed, heartless bastards. Where is the love?

REM's losing my religion is of course the classic but Metallica's 'Am I Evil' was one of my favourites to bang out in the months leading up to my escape. Think I was trying to tell them something?

We're just very good pattern-matching engines!
by AlmostAtheist ini was playing with my 5 month old in her walker.
i put her doll on one side until she spotted it.
then i slowly pulled it down below her vision and popped it back up on the other side.

Almost, I did some AI research during my IT degree and there was alot of information about neural networks within AI that attempted to match the way we remember and assimilate information. Aparently we take on new information and place it in context by creating new pathways through the neurons in our brains which link each chunk of information - I guess like greating a stub for the abstract class 'cup' and then creating some linkage to the sub classes 'mug', 'schooner' and 'hiball'. Sort of in the same way as indexing a database and grouping by a foreign key.
I think of it in the same way as you would code an object oriented program - you recognise the concept of 'cup' and then types of cup inherit the attributes of the parent class.
The thing with your daughter is interesting, sort of like a Pavlov's dog reaction (was it pavlov?).

Holocaust denier deported
by Kenneson inernst zundel is in trouble again.
see "kicked out of canada, white supremacist zundel served with charges in germany.
" it's a crime to deny the holocaust and incite hatred in germany; zundel is back in jail.

I completely agree with you Abaddon; freedom of speech is one thing, freedom of indoctrination to incite the dehumanisation of a vaste swathe of the world's population is not open for negotiation

I'm sorry but you are prime meat for the witnesses, you will fit right in.
Why are you seeking an organised religion? Develop your relationship with god personally and fill that hole in your life without resorting to the teachings of men which invariably lead to innacuracy and oppression designed to protect the organisational power structure.
